 What Is Millenium Volunteers?

The Millennium Volunteer Project has been running since 1999. Since then 7000 young people across Wales have signed up to the project and it is now recognised by education establishments, employers and the wider community throughout the whole of the UK

MV’s make a commitment to do voluntary work over the course of a year, which will benefit their local community. Swim Wales can help you find something, which interests and challenges you and something that you will enjoy

MV’s are asked to complete 200 hours of volunteering, which includes travel, planning and training, to receive an Award of Excellence signed by the First Minister. You will also receive a certificate after 100 hours to recognise your commitment as a volunteer.

Why Should I Become A Millenium Volunteer

Volunteering is a rewarding way to spend some of your spare time.

  • it opens your eyes to other things
  • it challenges you and your perceptions of other people
  • it builds your knowledge and skills
  • it helps you develop as aperson now and in later life
  • it lets you try out many new things to see if you enjoy them

But most importantly

  • it helps you make new friends and have fun

In a survey by Reed Employment Agency, 94% of employers asked said they would hire someone with volunteering on their CV over someone without.

So don’t forget to include your experiences when applying for jobs!
