Club History

The City of Cardiff Swimming club is affiliated to Swim Wales (formerly the Welsh Amateur Swimming Association - WASA)

The club was formed in 1974 by our Chief Coach, Dave Haller. He united all of the then many Cardiff swimming clubs to create one single club.

Using its many pools across Cardiff, including one of the few 50m pools in the UK at the time (the old Empire pool), Cardiff grew and developed quickly to become the Top Club in the UK. The demise of the Empire Pool in 1998 (making way for the Millenium Stadium) took away the opportunity to train locally in a Long Course facility.

The Construction of a new 10 lane 50m (long course) pool at the Intenational Sports Village, Cardiff Bay is nearing completion, with the Club commencing training there on the 2nd January 2008.

The club presently comprises of 13 squads, from an entrance level 8 (National Plan for Teaching Swimming(NPTS)) up to the Elite Squad, a number of who's swimmers are Commonwealth Games and Olympic Representatives and Medal Winners.

The coaching staff comprises of three professional coaches, headed by Dave Haller (who has represented Great Britain in the last 10 Olympic and Commonwealth Games) and they are supported by a team of dedicated and qualified coaching staff.
